mpc: 15 Labour market data for the third quarter had been broadly consistent with the Committee's expectations. Numbers in employment had continued to rise ­ mainly accounted for by self- employment ­ and the overall employment rate was stable. The participation rate had risen slightly and the unemployment rate had ticked up slightly, but there were some signs that the upward trend in unemployment might have been beginning to flatten off.
