mpc: 23 There had been no significant news on employment, unemployment or inactivity this month, nor
on average weekly hours. The CIPS surveys were weaker on the month, which was consistent with a
slowdown in employment growth. There seemed to be further evidence, from the Recruitment and
Employment Confederation survey, that availability of staff was decreasing less rapidly, while the
Bank's regional Agents continued to report signs of diminishing difficulties in recruitment.
