mpc: 14 UK consumption growth appeared to have slowed in the recent past. The latest ONS data
suggested that growth had fallen sharply in 2004 Q4, below the rate implied by the February
Inflation
Report forecast. That appeared to be broadly consistent with the reports of the Bank's regional Agents
and the
CBI Distributive Trades Survey. Spending on durable goods had been largely responsible for
the slowdown.
