mpc: 12 The ONS preliminary estimate of GDP growth in 2004 Q4 was 0.7%. This estimate did not take
account of the more recently released data for industrial production, according to which growth of
manufacturing output in Q4 had been 0.4 percentage points higher than previously thought; estimates
of manufacturing output back to August had also been revised upwards. These revisions had removed
a substantial part of the previous discrepancy between the industrial production data and the more
buoyant business surveys. But, given the weakness of some consumption indicators, it was unclear
what the expenditure counterparts to this relatively robust growth in output might have been.
