mpc: 16 The average of the Halifax and Nationwide house price indices had risen by 0.7% in the three
months to November, and the latest data were consistent with the central projection in the November
Inflation Report. The preview of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) survey showed
that the sales-to-stock ratio had fallen, while the net balance of estate agents reporting price increases
had fallen to a level comparable with that recorded during 1989 H2. Secured borrowing growth
continued to ease, and the number of mortgage approvals had fallen for the fifth consecutive month.
